Project — Brownstone Stoop Restoration
Brownstone Stoop Restoration — 31 South Oxford Street, Brooklyn
The Property
A brownstone row house at 31 South Oxford Street in Brooklyn — the stoop is the building's front step, its handshake, and its most weather-exposed masonry.
The Problem
The stoop's surface had worn through in patches — spalling, discolored, and shedding its finish, the condition the before photograph records. Left open, each winter's freeze-thaw would have taken more of the stone with it.
The Result
A smooth, uniform brownstone finish across the full stoop — treads, risers, and cheek walls reading as one surface again, with planters back on the landing.
The Work
The sequence the crew ran: strip the stoop back to sound structure, build the surface up with a scratch coat, then hand-apply the brownstone finish coat — the side frames show the coating going on, cheek walls first, treads following. It is the same strip–scratch–finish sequence the company runs on full facade elevations, at stoop scale.
