Project — Brownstone Stoop Restoration & Resurfacing
Brownstone Stoop Resurfacing — 233 Bergen Street, Brooklyn
The Property
A red-brick row house at 233 Bergen Street in Brooklyn, with a brownstone stoop under modern black entry doors — the stoop was the element that had failed.
The Problem
The stoop's finish coat had failed across every tread and riser — delaminated, peeling, and spalling, with stone worn through in patches. The brick facade above it was sound; the steps were not.
The Result
A smooth brownstone-toned finish coat over the full stoop — crisp nosings, re-formed edges, and a rounded bottom tread, photographed fresh with the keep-off tape still across the railings.
The Work, Stage by Stage
The photographs read in order: plantings and railings protected on prep day; a grey cementitious base coat on the upper treads first — combed and keyed so the next coat bonds — then the full step run and landing edge in the scratch coat with edges re-formed; and finally the brownstone-toned finish coat over everything.
